JW didn’t acquire his retail expertise in a boardroom; instead, he gained invaluable insights directly from the sales floor, dedicating the next 30 years to mastering every level of the retail industry. He began his journey as a retail associate at RadioShack and was steadily promoted through various roles, including store management, district leadership, director, Area VP, Division VP, and ultimately served as Corporate VP of Operations — making him one of the most tenured retail operations executives in the company’s history.
His defining moment for business growth came when he was charged with revitalizing the lowest-performing division within a four-division national organization, which encompassed 1,100 locations plagued by demoralized teams and persistent performance improvement challenges. By leading with a people-first approach, implementing a disciplined strategic operating plan, and maintaining a relentless focus on aligned execution from corporate to the front line, JW transformed this division into the top-ranked area in the company on a balanced scorecard within just a year, sustaining this success while promoting key team members into executive positions.
Since then, JW has applied that same operational rigor to the wireless industry with Verizon, launched a concierge 'we-come-to-you' mobile device repair business from scratch, and taken on roles as a franchise operations consultant and fractional VP of operations. He has overseen franchise and corporate operations across 384 Batteries Plus locations nationwide while also serving as VP for the largest Stretch Zone franchisee — where he instilled a robust sales culture, established operational controls, and emphasized performance management and accountability to drive a comprehensive business turnaround as a retail turnaround consultant and multi-unit retail consultant.
